Application Guidelines Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University has established the Frontier Research Base for Global Young Researchers in 2006 supported by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Japan, in order to introduce the tenure-track system. The Base invites worldwide applications for Five tenure-track positions at the rank of Associate or Assistant Professor every year in the specified fields. The Frontier Research Base for Global Young Researchers would like to:
1. Acquire talented, highly qualified researchers who are distinguished within the international research community:
2. Support researchers who have pioneering ambitions for both research and education, and who have the potential to become leaders of future generations: and
3. Promote strategic management of research staff to enhance major academic disciplines and create new scientific fields.

The specified field where applications are invited this time is the following.

1) Bioengineering (Applied Microbiology, Yeast, Stress tolerance, Bio-production, etc.)

Each researcher will be provided with a research budget up to ten million yen for the first year. Research budget up to five million yen for the second year, two million yen for the third and the fourth year will be provided. (The budget may depend on the fund from the MEXT.)
Contract will be for five years. At the end of the term, each appointee will be evaluated by the review committee and then, if approved, promoted to regular Associate Professor. The Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University will be able to prepare a sufficient number of regular positions. Annual salary is the same as tenured faculty members at the same rank in the school.

Required Qualifications An applicant needs to have a Ph.D. degree, which has been received not more than 8 years ago as of September 1, 2012, or is expected to be received before September 1, 2012.
