Cellulose Nanofiber Research in Japan

Read

In recent years, cellulose nanofiber has received considerable attention as a next-generation innovative material. Research and development (R&D) of this material in Japan began in the late 1980s and has since produced some remarkable results and received international recognition. Ever since the Japanese government outlined its strong support for cellulose nanofiber R&D in “Strategy for Development ‘Japan Revitalization Strategy’ Revision 2014” issued on June 24, 2014, research into the application and implementation of cellulose nanofiber has been accelerated.

In this article, we will summarize the properties of cellulose nanofiber and present an overview of the current state of research in Japan.
