Japan Aerospace Explortion Agency | JAXA

History and Outstanding Features

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) was established in October 2003, through the merger of the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS), the National Aerospace Laboratory of Japan (NAL), and the National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA). The newly formed JAXA was established in order to function as a single organization capable of conducting everything from basic research in the aerospace field to the development and utilization of technology. Space development and the aerospace industry are earmarked as core industries for next generation Japan; providing solutions to problems and contributing to the development of these industries are the pivotal responsibilities of JAXA. The corporate message of the agency is “Reaching for the skies, exploring space,” and this message informs everything that JAXA does as it works to further its research and development in order to contribute to the peace and happiness of humankind.
